New Adventures to Explore in Pennsylvania

It was time for another road trip and we were heading back to Pennsylvania. I always find new adventures when I explore Pennsylvania. I have explored these amazing places: Columcille MegalithPark, Longwood Gardens, Fonthill Castle, Mercer Museum, Peddlers Village, Eastern State Penitentiary, and Bushkill Falls. This time we were headed to Glencairn Museum.

New Hope Pennsylvania

It was a beautiful sunny day and Main Street in New Hope, Pa was filled with people of all ages. There were people going into the antique shops, from the looks of it this was a bikers road stop. The food from the many restaurants filled the air with aromas of smoked BBQ which made me want to stop. I didn’t know about this cute town. We passed a few bed and breakfasts which would make a perfect weekend getaway. I will definitely be back to explore a few attractions. There is even the New Hope Railroad which has year-round tourist attractions from wine excursions, fall foliage views, meeting with Santa and so much more. Glencairn Museum

Glencairn Museum is located at 1001 Cathedral Rd #0757, Bryn Athyn, PA 19009.  I’m a lover of museums and architecture and visiting here was a must on my list. I made one mistake when coming I purchased tickets for the Family Adventure Tour which was $8.

This tour only allowed us to see the first floor. It was fine with me with so much to see which included you receive a booklet describing the adventures, each distinguished by a color and a shape. Reservations are required online and masks are required. There is plenty of parking throughout the grounds.

There is public transportation by Septa Rail or bus.

I should have purchased the Highlights Tours for $12 which includes a 75-minute tour of the Chapel and the Main Bedroom and Bath, as well as three galleries showcasing the religious art collection. A visitor favorite is a ride in the elevator to the Tower, with its commanding view of the local area and the Philadelphia skyline.

The Medival Style  Home turned Museum 

Glencairn Museum was built in Bryn Athyn by Raymond Pitcairn from 1885-1966 in a style based on medieval architecture.  The nine-story, granite stone mansion features more than 90 rooms on 10 floors. Glencairn Museum contains a collection of about 8,000 artworks. Art collections included pieces from Egypt.

We enjoyed seeing collections from all around the world. My daughter enjoyed finding items off her scavenger hunt list. There were religious statues, antique furniture to fill the rooms, the carvings within the stones were amazing, and symbolic oriental rugs.

The beautiful glass-stained windows were amazing to see with the sun shining through. This is a great family trip and I will definitely be back for the full tour of the wonderful estate. There are events held throughout the year to check out.

Bryn Athyn Cathedral 

Just a few steps away down the paved path you will see the gothic Cathedral of Bryn Athyn located at  900 Cathedral Rd, Bryn Athyn, PA 19009. The Cathedral was built from 1913-1919. We strolled the peaceful grounds that were surrounded by well-manicured lawns and gardens of beautiful flowers. There are benches outdoors to view the amazing scenery of Pennypack Creek Valley.
