A Child’s Imagination
I remember being around ten or eleven years old. I lived in Newark, New Jersey in a building that was sixteen stories high in the sky. We lived on the fourteenth floor; the view was amazing to me as a child. I was not scared of heights and always found myself staring out the window daydreaming.
I would stare and wonder what was behind all the trees that I saw in the distance. Was it a forest, where did it lead to, did everything stop at the trees? I had so many questions. I loved nature and being outdoors and exploring. I would picture myself traveling up to those trees that I could play in, camp in, or even get lost.
I am older now and still remember this; it brings a smile to my face. A child of innocence with an imagination running wild. We lived at the bottom of the city; the trees to nowhere, so I believe were the neighboring towns of South Orange/West Orange. The treetops I saw across the horizon were South Mountain Reservation and Eagle Rock Reservation. Both great places to go hiking.
Fast forward thirty-three years, I am married with children, and living in my beautiful home among those trees I dreamed of. The first thing people ask when I say, “we are new to the area.” “What brought you up to Roxbury?” I would not say we are new anymore, it’s going on four years and we love living in this area. The peaceful sound of the water running from the Morris Canal to the birds singing building their yearly nests in our trees. This is what I imagined.
Moving to Roxbury Township
When we were looking for homes, I manifested what I wanted since I was a child. I just didn’t know it. I wanted trees, mountains, hearing the birds sing in the morning. I did not know they would be waking me up tweeting at sunrise, but I love it. I wanted to go far away from the city. We wanted to get away from the noise, and the rush. The best part was our realtor grew up in this area and said Roxbury Township was a great place to raise a family.
We did not know the town’s amazing history and all the beautiful places to visit surrounding us. We have a wonderful neighbor who grew up in town as a child and loves sharing stories about Ledgewood. We even found an old horseshoe in the backyard where the Morris Canal run through. http://www.roxburynewjersey.com/canal.htmWe live near the Kings Store and Museum that I was able to visit before COVID. It was amazing to see the store that also served as the town’s Post Office that was built in the 1800s.
Living in Morris County, there are many things to do and great places to eat. Please support local businesses and check out the following places I recommend with your family, solo or a much-needed date night. Living in Roxbury is fun all year round!
To follow back to my childhood, it was everything I dreamed of living amongst the trees.
